HACKNEY: 12 in court over fatal stabbing
Twelve men are appearing before magistrates charged over the death of a 16-year-old who was fatally stabbed in a street brawl.
David Nowak died from his injuries after he was stabbed in Farleigh Road, Stoke Newington, north London, on December 15.
Detectives arrested 19 people after fighting broke out following a birthday party at a community centre in Shacklewell Road. David was taken to the Royal London Hospital suffering from a knife wound that cut into his liver and a kidney but died hours later.
On Wednesday, Scotland Yard said 12 men aged between 15 and 21 were charged with offences including murder, attempted murder, violent disorder and possession of a weapon.
A spokesman said all of the accused are in custody and will appear at Thames magistrates' court on Thursday.
A 17-year-old man has been rebailed and four men, aged between 15 and 22, have been released with no further action.
Police said a group of young people, including David, were attacked after they left the party.
David was followed into a playground in Somerford Grove and stabbed. All those involved then fled.
Police said three other teenagers also suffered stab wounds during the street brawl. One of them was seriously injured.
A short time later officers stopped a 67 bus in Kingsland High street and arrested a large number of people.
